Feeding of Blue Tongues, Blotched Blue Tongues - Melbourne Zoo
Blue-tongued Lizard - Tiliqua sp.
ADULT: Fed 'Lizard Mix' and finely chopped greens three times weekly
over summer.
Supplement, when available:
Snails Crickets Grasshoppers
Mealworms Cockroaches Flowers - dandelion, daisy, clover etc.
LIZARD MIX
Chopped or diced fruit and vegetables mixed with softened, dry dog or
cat food pellets or canned dog or cat food or hard-boiled egg.
Fruit and vegetables chosen from:
Tomato Banana Apple
Pear Cucumber Zucchini
Broccoli Peas Endive (shredded)
Mushroom Grapes Bean sprouts
Corn Cantaloupe Sweet Potato (grated)
Paw Paw Squash Kiwi Fruit
Carrot (grated)
All fruit and vegetables should be firm. The final diet mix should
be a dry mix to avoid tooth and gum disorders.
Supplements liberally added to lizard mix, with a mix of 1:1: Multivitamin
and Calcium Carbonate powders.
IMPORTANT:
Many reptile and amphibian species require the correct UV light spectrum
to synthesise calcium. This can be provided by natural sunlight or access
to within 350mm of a BL type Blacklight or other safe UV emitting artificial
light source.
All animals should have access to clean drinking water at all times.
