- The ACT Parks and Conservation Service will require you to give details
of previous experience and/or qualifications in regard to the successful
management of the fauna you are applying to keep. Two referees may be
nominated in support of an application or the applicant can be interviewed
by a Conservation Officer to verify the appropriate level of knowledge
required. Membership of an appropriate organisation is also desirable.
- It is advisable to state your required options to breed and/or use
the animal/s for educational purposes. Though you may not require the
options initially, you may find that if the requests is not stated clearly,
your licence may be endorsed and these future requirements may be difficult
to negotiate.
- Also state your requirement for the option to sell or give away adult
or juvenile animals to appropriately licensed persons.
- Animals must be obtained from legally licensed sources, whether from
interstate or the ACT. (The ACT Parks and Conservation Service can confiscate
illegal animals and prosecute offenders found in possession of such
animals.) EXPORT documentation is required from interstate wildlife
authorities and IMPORT documentation from the ACT authorities
before herpetofauna can be brought into the Territory from interstate
and endorsed onto an ACT Licence to Keep.
NOTE: A NSW NPWS office is located at Queanbeyan, phone: 6299
2929, where information is available on request.
- Species on the EXEMPT listing in the ACT must be obtained from
legal sources even though no Licence to Keep is required.
No EXEMPT listings are current for herpetofauna in New South
Wales owing to recent legislative and policy changes.
- Documentation pertinent to obtaining a licence to keep reptiles in
the ACT is available on request from Environment Regulation, Level 2
Annex, Macarthur House, LYNEHAM ACT. Phone: (02) 6207 6376 Fax: (02)
6207 2268.
NOTE: Above name and address correct at time of writing.
